Lush Haul!

It’s been a while since I had a massive splurge on bathbomby goodies, and I wanted to share that joy with you!

Unfortunately, I had my phone stolen out of my coat pocket this week, so I can’t take any pretty pictures or videos of the bombs in action 😦

I can instead provide the photos from the Lush website and give you my first impressions/reviews of these lovely products.

The first one I’m gonna talk about is this little cutie (and the only one I’ve used so far): The Monster’s Ball Bath Bombmonsters_balls_bathbomb

This smell is wonderful, fresh and floral, and lingers nicely on the skin without being overpowering. The bath eventually turns a lovely purpley/blue colour, but releases all kinds of pinks and blues and purples and looks beautiful fizzing around the bath.

Autumn Leaf Bath Bomb

I am weirdly obsessed with autumn leaves. The beautiful colours give me so much joy I can hardly explain. So obviously this was at the top of my list; I can’t wait to watch it when I put it in the bath.

Lord of Misrule Bath Bomb

The description of the scent on the website didn’t inspire much in me, but I was sold by a lovely Lush employee and actually smelling it in real life. I can imagine this is going to be a really nice relaxing bath before bedtime.

Goth Fairy Shimmer Bar

Now this is one of those products that wasn’t even on my radar, but I got in a conversation with another Lush employee and she sold it to me too well to turn it down! Firstly I adore the name, and it’s so cute, not to mention it smells delightful, if subtle. It leaves such a gorgeous shimmer on the skin I can’t wait to try it on a night out and see it sparkle (yes, like a Cullen, but less problematic).

Luxury Lush Pud Bath Bomb

w_luxury_lush_pud

Christmas in a bathbomb. I need say no more.

Northern Lights Bath Bomb

Looks really boring on the outside, but apparently has to be dropped in the water to release the magic.

Sugar Plum Fairy Lip Scrub

I looove the Bubblegum lipscrub, and this one tastes even more delicious and works just as well. So simple and so effective. It is especially necessary now it’s dark lipstick season, for flawless application.

Brb gonna go waste away in the bath now.

Review – Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

In short – I love it. Looove it. Amazing.

20160602_145508

I was so excited to make this purchase. I’ve been wanting it for so long and it finely felt like the right time to treat myself to it.

The packaging is gorgeous; of course, it’s a Too Faced product, so it has gone on my shelf, in the section I like to call ‘make up packaging that was too pretty, and I spent too much money on, to bin’.

20160602_145648

Look how pretty! Anyway, on to the actual product.

It goes on really easily, very few clumps, provides loads of length and loads of volume. I love the shape of the brush, the hourglass, it really does make it easy to coat all of the lashes and provide all of that volume.

20160602_145741

If you don’t have £19 to spare to spend on a mascara though, I don’t think it’s quite beaten the Soap and Glory Thick and Fast mascara, I think it’s on par. The latter is £10.50, so it’s not exactly cheap, but in my opinion it’s whether you think the beautiful packaging is worth the extra £8.50, in the end.

9.5/10, so, Too Faced…

20160602_145611

…yes it was, thank you 😉

Current Skincare Routine

My skin has been looking pretty good lately (?!) so I figured I must be doing something right with my skincare. So obviously I thought this was a great opportunity to write a post about my favourite products I’m using in my current routine.

20160520_154134.jpg

I’ll start with what I use every morning (and most evenings if I’m not feeling too lazy) which is my face wash:

Simply Pure Gentle Face Wash by Superdrug

It does what it says on the tin. It costs less than £3, and it does exactly what I want it to do: cleanse my skin! I used to use the foam cleansing wash of the same brand but I seem to prefer a gel wash; it makes my skin feel much cleaner and more refreshed.

20160520_154553.jpg

Step two in the morning (and last thing at night) would be my moisturizers:

Vitamin E Day & Night Creams by Superdrug

20160520_154631.jpg

Again, so reasonably priced, only £2.99 each, and so effective! My makeup goes on better in the morning after I’ve used the day cream, and my skin still feels soft when I wake up in the morning after using the night cream.

To take my make off before I go to bed at night I have been using:

Vitamin E Dual Phase Cleansing Oil by Superdrug

I’m pretty on the fence about this product, because it’s cheap (again, only £2.99), does take my makeup off relatively well (I will always have trouble with the amount of eye makeup I wear), and leaves my skin looking good once it has soaked all the way in, but I’m just not a big oil fan. I don’t like the greasiness it leaves on my face after I’ve used it, and I’ve got through the bottle really quickly, probably cause I use a lot to get off all my eye makeup.

20160520_154646.jpg

As you can probably tell I’m kind of obsessed with the Vitamin E range, because it’s so super cheap, cruelty free and just seems to suit my skin really well, so I’ve decided next to try the hot cloth cleanser as the makeup-removing part of my routine, so hopefully that’ll be more my cup of tea.

And finally a few extras I try and squeeze in once or twice a week;

Vitamin E Gentle Oatmeal Exfoliator

What a shock, another Superdrug product! I seriously can’t get enough; if you’re in the UK and want some great quality, cruelty free, reasonably priced skincare products Superdrug is amazing. I’m also a fan of their Naturally Radient range, but haven’t tried many of those products yet. Watch this space.

20160520_154511.jpg

Anyway back to the scrub; it really is gentle on the skin, and my face always feels buffed and smooth whenever I’ve used it.

Cup O’Coffee Face and Body Mask by Lush

I cannot express to you how amazing this stuff smells. I’m trying to cut down on my caffeine so this is like my way of getting my fix of coffee without having to drink it. If you don’t like the smell of coffee, you will hate this, but I love it, and it genuinely makes my face feel more awake. I usually put this on if I’m having a bath, or sat in my pjs on my day off just chilling out. When you rinse the mask off it is like a scrub so I thought it might be a little too harsh, but it’s not, it’s perfect for that fresh-faced feeling.

20160520_154348.jpg

There we go, my current skincare routine complete. Nothing too fancy or extravagantly expensive, and it seems to be working for me so I guess I should keep it up!

Now that I’m back from Germany that is; damn 100ml liquid allowance, messing up my routine. It was worth it though (sorry, skin).

My favourite beauty tip of the moment

I feel like I’ve been neglecting the beauty side of my blog recently, so I am here today to rectify that with a simple product I could not live without in my makeup bag:

Cotton buds

Seriously, these little things cost like £1 for 300, and they’re double-ended so they last twice as long?? Basically if you haven’t got these little miracles in your life/make up routine you should probably invest.

20160330_145109.jpg

I originally bought this packet when I got my nose pierced in September 2014 to keep it clean; but seen as it sadly got infected anyway and I decided it wasn’t worth the painful hassle anymore I took it out just a couple of months later, the cotton buds have been solely used for clearing up makeup-mishaps ever since.

I mess up my eyeliner a lot*, so they are basically my saving grace whenever I am running late for work and have some kind of smudge-related/over-doing it issue. I sometimes dab a bit of make up remover on the end, but most of the time I just dab it on my tongue and wipe off the excess eyeliner (or sometimes lipstick) pretty swiftly, without it interfering too much with the rest of my make up, and preventing me from starting all over again. And if I don’t get it all, just flip it over and do the same with the other end, then grab a new one if it’s still not solved the issue. The packet honestly seems never-ending the way I use them.

Do you have any simple tricks similar to this one that you think everyone should know about? Pleeease let me know, I would be eternally grateful, as its things like this that make my life so much less stressful (as ridiculous as that sounds)!

Christmas prezzies!

Happy new year to you! I may do a look back on my 2015 in the next few days, but for now I’m just going to share a few of the presents I received for Christmas this year 🙂

20151228_183902.jpg

Tanya Burr lipgloss, nail file and nail polish set in this adorable gingerbread house!

20151228_183631.jpg

A few books that I am very excited to read. 30 books is my goal for 2016, only 9 more than I managed in 2015. Baby steps. Got to account for my procrastination… Before I read these I have to finish the books I got last Christmas so…yeah. 20151228_183541.jpg

New watch! So pretty, and I needed a backup considering I’ve butchered the strap on my other one.

img_20151221_165415.jpg

Is a (sideways) fox slipper sock. Enough said.

20151228_183059.jpg

Aaaaand finally. My pride and joy. My baby. A Charlotte Tilbury matte lipstick. *drools*

And of course I got some socks and some pajamas because what is Christmas without new socks or new pajamas?!

That’s all from me now, expect more regular updates now the Christmas season is over and I’m not living at work and get some actual free time.

Toodles!

Foundation Review: GOSH Foundation Drops

I’ve been on the hunt for a MAC Studio Fix replacement for ages now. I’ve started with high street brands, cause it would be nice to find a budget AND cruelty free alternative.

image

This is the first high street foundation that comes close to my actual skin tone. Usually they’re just too dark or too orange.
The texture is really thin (hence drops) which makes it quite greasy, so I definitely wouldn’t recommend it to someone with oily skin. For my combination skin though,  it’s great once I’ve applied powder. It’s also not suitable to be applied with a stippler brush, I use a sponge.
The liquidyness also means coverage is buildable, though you would need to use quite a lot for full coverage.
It lasts really well, tried and tested on several shifts serving in a busy pub:

imagewpid-20150922_095542.jpg

Before a seven hour shift…

imagewpid-20150922_173101.jpg

After a seven hour shift. (See also: Tanya Burr lip gloss in Berry Picking, only reapplied after eating once. Also the colour is amazing).

I realise you can’t really tell because the pictures are rubbish but you get the idea. Also, disclaimer, I did use primer.

image

All in all I would give this foundation a 7/10. Very impressed. I’ll be testing out the GOSH Apricot primer next!

Current (Cruelty-Free) Beauty Faves

Superdrug Vitamin E Serum & Day Cream

.Superdrug Vitamin E Serum 50mlIt makes me so happy that I can go into a Superdrug store and know that any own brand products I pick up will be cruelty free. This makes life so much easier, especially when I’ve done a little too much over-spending recently to splash out on a more expensive brand.

Up until now my go-to Superdrug range has been the B. skincare and make up, but having run out of my B. Night Serum and my Lush Celestial moisturiser at the same time, I decided to try out the slightly cheaper Vitamin E range.

.Superdrug Vitamin E SPF15 Moisturising Cream 100mlI have combination skin, but more on the dry side, so I thought this would be a good way to combat that, and I was right. My skin feels so soft, I have been totally converted to this range.

(I’m especially excited to try the Moisture Mask and the Super Balm)

Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean Deep Cleansing Milk

PEACHES AND CLEAN™ Deep Cleansing Milk

This smells delicious, and works a treat. When I wear a lot of eye make-up (which is most of the time) I still have to use remover pads to take it off, but otherwise this cleanser is all you need. It really does  what it says it will, the description being: ‘daily skin detox which will help to purify and clarify, invigorate, soften skin, and melt away makeup, dirt, and impurities for a smooth, luminous complexion.’

Zoella’s Scrubbing Me Softly and Kissy Missy lip balm

From Zoe’s original range I have still only tried the Fizz Bar, which I absolutely adored. I loved the understated, fresh scent of it, so was a bit nervous when I found out the new range was more fruity.

But from when I first saw her video revealing the products for the new tutti fruity range I knew I had to have the lip balm and the body scrub. And I don’t regret it.

Zoella Kissy Missy Lip BalmI love the idea of a pigmented lip balm, even though the colour definitely won’t suit every skin type, it’s perfect for my pinky paleness.

The body scrub just smells heavenly (the scent really lingers as well, in a good way) and leaves my skin feeling so smooth and soft, it makes up for the fact that I’m sometimes too lazy to moisturise as much as I should!

Lush Karma Kream

I’ve had this product for a long, long time, and the scent I know isn’t to everyone’s taste, but I’ve always been a big fan. Especially a couple of weeks ago when I got back from Latitude with an obscene amount of midge and mosquito bites, with not enough bite relief cream to cover the whole area.

Collection Cream Puff Lip Cream in Cotton Candy

It’s super creamy, super moisturising, but it dries matte?! And it lasts for a good while for a lip gloss that’s only £2.99. I love love love it.

Grad Ball

So it’s been a while since Nottingham University’s Graduation Ball 2015 now, but I’m finally getting around to making my post about it. Mostly about what I wore, because the event itself was a bit meh, I only had such a great time because of the people that were there and the amount of wine I drank (and with boiling temperatures in the marquee and hall and no free water, I’m blaming dehydration on the horrific hangover I suffered the next day).

I wanna start with my hair because Gemma did such a fantastic job! I was joking when I asked her to make it into a bow, but she actually did it and it looked amazing. She is a wizard.

11427658_10153156528906713_7037470422335653195_n11407047_10153156529306713_6762972386539455940_nLooook! So impressed by those skills.

My dress is the Elsa dress from Chi Chi London, and it made me feel like a princess, even after my New Look shoes started to make my feet feel like they were on fire. And like I was walking on knives. 11425187_10152979449537749_6822650503264366455_n

For my make-up I went with GOSH BB cream and mineral powder (for extra coverage and staying power), B. ‘Glowing Shimmer Block’ blush, Benefit ‘Brow Zings’ brow kit, Barry M ‘Starry Eyed’ eyeshadow palette (on the lid and on the bottom lash line), GOSH ‘Intense’ black eyeliner pen, Soap and Glory ‘Thick and Fast’ mascara and Natural Collection strawberry shortcake lipgloss.

I don’t know what I looked like by the end of the night after I’d sweated out all of the moisture in my body, but early on I felt pretty fantastic! And all of my girls looked absolutely fabulous; all of the photos of us laughing are my favourites 🙂

GOSH Makeup Haul

I seem to be making a habit of going shopping for one particular thing or reason, and coming home with a whole haul. Monday was no exception, as a very hungover two housemates and myself went in search of lunch the afternoon after the No Tomorrow festival weekend, settling in Bella Italia (so many carbs, mmm) before heading for a gander around the shops.

I went into Superdrug looking for a BB Cream, because I want an easy product to use on my face so I can pack lightly when I go on my travels over summer. I found it in the shape of Gosh’s BB Cream Foundation in the shade 002 (the lightest, of course) which is an all-in-one product which I am hoping will do the job.

I’ve never really used many products from GOSH in the past, but after finding out they were cruelty free I thought I’d try them out; and I’m glad I did because I’m in love with their Intense Eye Liner Pen which I bought a few weeks ago. So can you blame me for taking advantage of the buy one get one half price deal?

I’ve wanted to jump on the mineral powder bandwagon for a while, so this was the perfect opportunity (not for my bank account, unfortunately). I bought the Mineral Powder and the GOSH mineral powder brush (which wasn’t in the deal, but, hey…) and I love it. It goes on so nicely, the coverage is brilliant and leaves my skin feeling silky smooth.

My final product that I argued, mostly with myself, that I really needed and couldn’t leave the shop without it: Velvet Touch Lipliner. To be fair, I do wear lipstick quite a lot and I’ve been told it’s a crime to wear lippy without a liner so…it’s justified, right?

That’s all for now, I know it might seem like a small haul, but spending over £20 as a student hurtling towards graduation makes it a big deal, I promise. I’ll probably be back and rambling on about other purchases I’ve made (I have a bit of a shoe problem, as well as cosmetics, at the moment) in the next couple of days. Though I am going to a ball tonight and a social tomorrow night and all the socialising might wear me out a little too much, so we’ll have to see. 🙂
